I found him beside our bird feeder this morning, quietly grazing on salal. He watched me with stillness, awareness, and what felt like a flicker of self-consciousness.

He’s in the middle of shedding his velvet. A raw, itchy, and uncomfortable stage that also, if only briefly, strips away his image of strength.

A few years ago, I spent the better part of a day—while resting after chemo—watching his father scrape his own velvet off against a tree in the same spot.
So I knew it wasn’t painful.
But there’s still something so tender about this moment.

To me, this image is a reminder that even the most majestic beings go through times of transformation that can feel uncertain.

That strength and vulnerability are not opposites, but companions.
And in these quiet, in-between moments,
perhaps what we all need most
is a little more compassion.

✨ Exciting News! ✨

I’m incredibly honoured that my black and white fine art image of the Sahara Desert in Morocco has been selected for the CAPIC Xposé 2025 poster!

This image was a personal departure from my usual vibrant colour work—an exploration of contrast, texture, and light in one of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes. To see it recognized in this way is truly humbling.

This piece was originally accepted for exhibition in CAPIC Xposé 2024 and has also received Honourable Mentions from the prestigious Monochrome Awards and Black & White Spider Awards.

Huge thanks to @capicnational for this honour and for supporting photographers across Canada. Looking forward to seeing this work represent Xposé 2025!
