Hiking and backpacking carry a higher level of risk than many other sports. Nature is beautiful but she is also dangerous, and her risks should never be underestimated. Always evaluate your safety and don’t take unnecessary chances. I know this first-hand because soon after I took this photo on the West Coast Trail, I was nearly swept to sea!

I’m passionate about the outdoors and connecting people with nature as the benefits are immeasurable. But as a photographer posting to social media, am I part of the problem?
